Roanoke, Virginia, etc...

Roanoke: The large, semi-blurry city near the center is Roanoke.

South of Roanoke are: Rocky Mount (close); Martinsville (middle); Eden, North Carolina (far); Reidsville, North Carolilna (farther)
Southeast of Roanoake is Danville
East of Roanoke are: Bedford (close) and Lynchburg (far, the relatively clear city)

Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas

Here's an image of Dallas-Forth Worth. Not as clear as some of the city images, but pretty good nonetheless.

London and Bristol, England

Here is a photo of London at night from space. On the left side of the image is Bristol. The blurry spots are caused by clouds.

Rome, Italy: The Eternal City

Here is an image of Rome. I've always liked the city of Rome, and I hope someday I'll visit there.

New York, New York: A Closer View

Here is a closer view of New York, New York. It's still not the full size as the original, but it's larger than the view from the previous post. This image was included in the mosaic in the last post.

FYI. This image is really high quality compared to some of the images I have. Not all of the images I have are this clear. Don't worry, there are a lot of high-quality images left for me to post.

New England: Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Providence, Boston

This image is a mosaic I created from several individual images. From bottom to top are: Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Providence, and Boston (plus many other towns/cities in between). Click on the image to see a larger version. The original mosaic is much larger, but it was too large to reasonably post here.

Welcome to Cities at Night

My name is Scott, and I am currently a mechanical engineering student. In the summer of 2007, I worked with an astronaut named Don Pettit, who had been a part of Expedition 6 to the International Space Station. I did image processing for him. While in space, Dr. Pettit took pictures of the lights emitted from various cities. These images look really interesting, so I thought I'd share some of them. In this blog I will occasionally post some of the images that I worked on for Dr. Pettit.
